‘on an old Trans Himalayan Salt Trade Caravan Route of Nepal to Tibet’

It lies in the north-central part of Nepal and also known as “The forbidden kingdom”, Lo Manthan is the center of this kingdom.  Mustang is a treasured trekking area of Nepal. Upper Mustang Trekking is popularly known as hidden valley trekking in Nepal. Here you will get a chance to experience the unique beauty of Himalayan desert, a strange and unusual landscape. Huge numbers of people are attracted to mustang every year to explore hundreds of years old caves and monasteries along with interesting festivals of Tiji and Yartung.

Upper Mustang Trekking is one of the most mysterious and well-known trekking in Nepal. The landscape of Mustang is dry, naturally carved sandstone pillars and discontinuous moraine terraces, these all present naturally a colorful variety made up of red, yellow and brown together. It is comparably considered to be one of the best trekking, along with the recently permitted route to Lo Manthang that lies at the heart of Mustang.

The history of Mustang is based on myth and legend rather than the recorded detail. Mustang maintained its status as a separate principality until 1951. The ex-king of mustang still retains his title and he has been given the cultural respect. Upper Mustang Trekking starts from Kagbeni, further to the world’s highest lo-Manthang valley with panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other Himalayan peaks. You can either fly from Pokhara to Jomsom and two hours trek to Kagbeni or you can also drive from Pokhara to Kagbeni. Normally Upper Mustang trek is not for backpacker because of its expensive permit cost. You can’t issue the permit on your own instead it had to be applied by an authorized local operator from Nepal.
